Mindful Eating Program

A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety.  ~Aesop, Fables

The food we ingest comes from living and breathing creatures and plants of the earth. Yet, we have become so far removed from the source of our food that many of us think that food comes from the market instead of the animal or plant habitat from where it originated. Tracing the path of our food from its origination is a rare and lost process. Jjust as we hold energy within our bodies, so does the food that provides the fuel for our activities. That food contains the energy of everyone and everything it was near from its origination along the entire path to our tables and our mouths.

What we often forget, however, is that this energy is not limited to the physical boundaries of the beings, but that our own energy can and does effect the food we eat.

When we sit down to a meal angry, we are feeding ourselves with anger - eating anger. When we eat on the go, we are depriving ourselves of nourishment because we are eating the energy of being rushed. When we feel guilty about what we are eating, we have tranformed our food into the energy of guilt, eating guilt. Conversely, when we sit down to a meal in peace, we are nourishing ourselves with peace. When we take time to enjoy our food, we are ingesting pleasure into our systems. When we feel love and happiness about what we eat, we are fueling our lives with love and happiness.
